DESCRIPTION

The classically styled Bremont Hawking Limited Edition watch, featuring a retrograde seconds hand and grand date, contains 4 wooden discs inlaid into the back of the watch taken from the desk at which Hawking contemplated the mysteries of the universe, one of his most treasured possessions. This exquisite chronometer also contains some meteorite to symbolise the cosmos which can be seen at the centre of the striking hand-finished closed case back, as well as an etching of stars from the night sky in Oxford, on 8th January 1942, the date that Hawking was born.

The watch’s serial number is printed on paper from original copies of a 1979 seminal research paper commonly referred to as “The ‘nuts’ and ‘bolts’ of gravity”, co-written with one of Hawking’s longest serving collaborators, Professor Gary Gibbons, that sought to understand the thermal properties of black holes. Housed within is the unique BE-33AE movement, with 42-hour power reserve. Only 388 stainless steel and black dial, 88 rose gold with black dial and 88 white gold and blue dial pieces will be made; the numbers referencing the year in which Hawking’s “Brief History of Time” was published, 1988.

Modified calibre 11 1/2’’’ BE-33-AE. 29 Jewels. 42-hour power reserve. Nivaflex mainspring. 28,800BPH. Glucydur balance wheel and Anachron balance spring.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION

FUNCTIONS
Hour/minute/120° arc retrograde 30 seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock. Double window big date at 12 o’clock position.

CASE
Stainless Steel, 18ct Rose Gold or 18ct White gold in Bremont’s Trip-Tick® construction. Case diameter 41mm, height 14.20mm. Screw-down crown.

CASE BACK
Stainless Steel, 18ct Rose Gold or 18ct White gold case back with integrated flat sapphire crystal. Four screws to complement case material. Revealing a stainless steel decorative plate coated with black PVD and enamel, inlaid with a Meteorite disc, surrounded by four wooden panels and an individual serial number laser engraved onto original Stephen Hawking manuscript paper.

DIAL & HANDS
Matte Black/Blue metal dials with polished applied indexes and ‘black hole’ spiral etching. Bevelled, polished nickel/rose gold hands with white Super-LumiNova®. 360 degree marked dial ring. Matte White sub dial with white calendar discs.

CRYSTAL
Domed anti-reflective, scratch resistant sapphire crystal.

WATER RESISTANCE
Water resistant to 10 ATM, 100 metres.

STRAP
20mm Black, Dark Blue and Dark Brown alligator straps with 18mm pin buckle to complement case material.
